Have Santa Bring You Shapelier Lips

If you have thin, shapeless lips, you’re not alone. Plus, your lips may have once been fuller, but have since thinned. This is just a natural byproduct of aging.

But you can pump up the volume of your lips for all of your holiday parties and get-togethers at Austin Cosmetic Surgery. We offer three different dermal fillers that are all designed for use on the lips — Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Volbella, along with Restylane Silk. The FDA has approved all three fillers for use on the lips.

What are Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Volbella?

All Juvederm fillers are hyaluronic acid fillers. Juvederm started with a single initial filler, Juvederm, which was first approved by the FDA in 2006. Since then the line has expanded. Ultra was the first Juvederm product intended for the lips. It was approved shortly after Restylane Silk, in October 2015. It is a smooth gel that is intended to add visible volume and plumpness to the lips.

But not everyone wanted to add that much volume, as many felt it too “showy.” So, Juvederm added Volbella, which received FDA approval in June 2016. Volbella is intended to add subtle volume and shape to the lips, without being overly obvious.

What is Restylane Silk?

Like Juvederm, Restylane started with a single dermal filler. It was intended for nasolabial folds and other lines around the mouth area. Since then the Restylane line has also expanded. In January of 2015 Silk was added to the Restylane family. Restylane Silk is a smooth gel designed to restore natural definition and symmetry to the lip and mouth area. It was the first dermal filler approved by the FDA for use adding volume to the lips.

Where do these fillers work?

As mentiond above, at Austin Cosmetic Surgery we use Ultra, Volbella, and Silk to add volume, definition, and shape to the lips. But they are also excellent for removing the vertical lines that form on our lips, coloquially called “barcode lines.” All three of these fillers erase barcode lines effectively.

How does these fillers work?

All of these fillers are classified as “natural fillers” because they are made from clear, hyaluroic acid gel that has been formulated specifically for the lips and surrounding areas of the face. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in the human body. Its job is to plump and hydrate the skin. It does this by binding with water molecules. Because the skin around the mouth is delicate, Ultra, Volbella, and Silk are formulated with smaller particles in a smooth texture. This smoothness makes these fillers very accurate when placed, an important fact for the lips.

Because we move our lips so much, fillers tend to break down a little faster than other areas of the face. You should enjoy your new shapelier lips for 6-9 months. If you want to keep your plumper, shapelier lips, you simply return to our offices for another session.

With all the mistletoe around this time of year, plumper, shapelier, eminently kissable lips could come in quite handy. Call us at Austin Cosmetic Surgery, (512) 688-8000 (Lakewood office) or (480) 947-7700 (Scottsdale office), to make your appointment to get the lips you’ve always wanted.
