What Is Radiesse and How Does It Work?

Radiesse is a filler plus biostimulant combined in one to give immediate and long-lasting results.

It is truly a one of a kind product on the market right now. It is made from tiny spheres of Calcium Hydroxylaptite (CaHa), identical to the naturally occurring minerals portion of bones and teeth. When injected into soft tissue the tiny spheres remain malleable and provides volume and increased collagen production through neogenesis. It was initially approved in 2006 by the FDA and is biocompatible, meaning it does not require any skin testing for allergic reaction prior to treatment.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Radiesse and Where Can It Be Used?

Radiesse is a very malleable filler that can be used in many different types of patients. If you are starting to see signs of aging and want to reverse them using a non-invasive treatment, Radiesse may be a good choice for you. It is used for correction of moderate to severe facial olds such as the nasolabial folds plus restoration of fat loss (lipoatrophy). It can be used in less dilute versions to create an amazing definition to jawline and structured cheeks. In more hyperdiluted states it can be softened to treat submalar hollowing, cellulite, volume loss in arms, legs, buttock, hands, and multiple other areas. It is best to have a consultation with a provider trained extensively on Radiesse for best treatment options.

How Long Do Results from Radiesse Last?

On average, immediate results can last anywhere between 9-15 months, however, the biostimulant effects can last much longer because the injected spheres serve to stimulate your body’s own production of natural collagen. It is one of the longest-lasting fillers on the market.

Is There Any Downtime After Treatment?

There is no downtime other than the potential for bruising and swelling as with any injectable filler. These side effects usually resolve within a few days. Several injections may be needed depending on the size of the area being treated. Topical anesthetic is applied before injection to minimize any discomfort.

Avoiding alcohol, aspirin, Advil, Aleve, Fish oil, and other supplements that can thin blood for 5-7 days before appointment date can help with decreasing your chances of bruising. Optimal results are usually within 7-10 days as the filler has had time to integrate more with tissue and feel natural.
