What Is A Facelift?
As we age, we develop creases in our forehead, mouths, and all around our faces. A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that tightens facial muscles, removes fat, and trims excess skin in order to reverse signs of aging. After a facelift, your facial features will be more prominent, your skin will be tighter, you will have fewer wrinkles, and your eyes will be more open. You’ll still be you, but a much younger looking you.
Before & After Four-Dimensional Facelift
Candidates For A Facelift
Ideal candidates for a facelift have some facial sagging and want to correct one or more issues in the middle and lower area of the face. Additionally, patients should be in good overall health, have remaining skin elasticity, and have realistic surgical expectations.
“Dr. Michelle and Dr. Albert Carlotti are the definition of the dynamic duo. I was blessed to be a patient of Dr. Michelle. She was not only knowledge beyond belief, but made me feel comfortable, excited, safe, and “in the know” about what I was going to experience and the procedures I was going to have. She welcomes you with a warm smile, encouragement, and optimism.” -Megan
Before & After Four-Dimensional Facelift
Before making a final decision, Drs. Carlotti will meet with you to discuss your surgery. They will review your medical history and perform a thorough physical examination to determine if you are healthy enough for the procedure. Using digital photography and computer imaging, Drs. Carlotti will create a strategy that is tailor-made to your own unique features and proportions.
The Facelift Procedure
After your consultation, we will schedule your procedure. A facelift is an outpatient procedure in which patients can choose to be under sedation or general anesthesia. During the procedure, Drs. Carlotti will make several small, hidden incisions along the hairline and facial contours. Skin, tissue, and muscles are then lifted and tightened into the desired position. Next, our staff will remove any excess skin. Finally, Drs. Carlotti will close the incisions with stitches or glue. The whole procedure takes about 2 hours.
What Is A Four-Dimensional Facelift?
A facelift reduces the signs of aging but it does not stop aging altogether. In addition, a facelift does not improve the brows, eyelids, nose or skin. Patients that are looking for a more comprehensive facelift can choose a four-dimensional facelift. Our proprietary four-dimensional facelift procedure is more than a run-of-the-mill facelift. We perform multiple small procedures including facelift, neck lift, endoscopic brow lift, and laser resurfacing in what is truly a reconstruction of youth.
Similar to a traditional facelift, our four-dimensional facelift is performed by Drs. Carlotti under general anesthesia. Additionally, small incisions are placed at your hairline, behind your ears, and under your chin. Then, Drs. Carlotti will reposition your cheek fat pads over your cheekbones. Finally, your facial expression muscles are repositioned to achieve the desired result.
Four-Dimensional Facelift Benefits
Unlike a traditional facelift, the four-dimensional facelift procedure provides the benefits of multiple procedures in one surgery. Combining the procedures benefit not only our staff but the patient as well. Performing a facelift, neck lift, brow lift, and laser resurfacing all at once allow Drs. Carlotti to plan the procedures together and optimize results. Furthermore, patients will not have to undergo multiple surgeries or experience multiple recovery periods.
Risks of A Facelift
As with any surgical procedure, there are some risks associated with a facelift. These potential risks include:
- Allergic reaction to the anesthesia
- Nerve injury
- Skin blistering
- Swelling or discoloration
- Temporary or permanent loss of sensation in the face
After the procedure, it’s common for patients to experience some discomfort for 1-3 days. If needed, patients can take some pain medication to aid in recovery. One week later patients can have the stitches removed from incision sites. Temporary side effects, including swelling, numbness, bruising, and stiffness, resolve within a few weeks. In addition, as time passes scars heal and become less noticeable. Patients typically return to their normal routine about 10 days after surgery.
Results of A Facelift
Initial results will appear about a month after surgery. Over the next year, patients will continue to see improvement in their appearance. Facelift results are not permanent, however, the effects are permanent and the face looks better than if surgery had not been performed.
