To Lift or Not to Lift: The Brazilian Butt Lift
- Posted on: Sep 15 2018
If you’re old enough, you may remember when Kate Moss was the supermodel of supermodels, her face and skinny body gracing seemingly every beauty magazine cover. Her look featured no natural female curves, and most women felt they had little in common with her look.
Fortunately, those days are over. Today, women are proud to show their feminine curves, and that’s a good thing.
This appreciation of rounder figures has extended to our bottoms. If you don’t think so, see how long it is before you come across some image or mention of the round backsides of celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, or Kim Kardashian.
At Austin Cosmetic Surgery, the Drs. Carlotti, Michelle and Albert, perform Brazilian Butt Lifts to round out our patients’ derrieres.
What is a Brazilian Butt Lift and how is it different that butt augmentation?
A Brazilian Butt Lift is a form of butt augmentation, but it differs dramatically from augmentation with implants. In a Brazilian Butt Lift, a patient’s own fat is used for the augmentation. In implant augmentation, implants are surgically placed. In implant augmentation, the results are permanent, but sometimes implants can move and require revision surgery. The consensus seems to be that Brazilian Butt Lift augmentation delivers more natural looking results. We don’t perform butt implants at Austin Cosmetic Surgery.
How is a Brazilian Butt Lift performed?
The first part of a Brazilian Butt Lift at Austin Cosmetic Surgery is liposuction. This is necessary to gain the necessary fat for reinjection. Plus, it is a secondary benefit of the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure. Dr. Carlotti harvests fat from an unwanted area through liposuction. Small incisions are made. Local anesthesia is infused first, and then a thin cannula is inserted and moved back and forth to loosen the fat pockets in the area. The cannula then suctions out the fat. Up to three times the amount of fat that will be re-injected may be harvested.
Next, the fat, tissue, and blood that were suctioned out are processed to separate the fat. Dr. Carlotti then re-injects the fat back into the buttocks through numerous small injections all over your buttocks. We pay special attention to the upper portion of the bottom.
How long do results take?
Results are immediately visible, but they keep improving with time because it takes some time for the fat to “take.” It can take a full year before a patient’s full results are visible. Over time, some of the initial volume from your fat grafting procedure will diminish. On average, patients retain 60 to 80% of the transferred fat, with the body absorbing the rest.
