What is cheek augmentation?

Cheek augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that uses cheek implants to create fuller, more prominent cheekbones. If you have weak cheekbones, a narrow face structure or have lost tone in your cheeks due to time and aging, cheek augmentation surgery may be the perfect choice for you. Cheek implants may also be part of a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation protocol, combined with one or more other procedures, including nose surgery, chin augmentation, a brow lift or eyelid lift.

What can cheek augmentation do?

High, prominent cheekbones are universally recognized as a sign of beauty, but we are not all blessed with this feature. If your face lacks the elegant structure you want, we invite you to meet with us to find out about our custom cheek augmentation procedure. This surgery can:

Who is a candidate for cheek augmentation in Lakeway, TX?

We all know that we lose facial volume over time. The “malar” and “submalar” areas (the cheekbone and below the cheekbone) seem to age, in both males and females, often prematurely, and sometimes to a more extreme level. Men and women who have inherited genetically flatter midfaces tend to age more profoundly and often earlier, regardless of race. Consequently, the cheek augmentation has become commonplace in our practice.

Transform your look for a more refined, elegant, youthful facial structure.

Dr. Michelle Cabret often uses cheek or tear trough implants as a facet of our exclusive 4-Dimensional Facelift procedures, to achieve total facial rejuvenation. This customized facial rejuvenation treatment has led to international notice and acclaim. Dr. Michelle Cabret will spend time personally discussing the aspects of facial aging that bother patients, in a private, extensive consultation.

Countless patients point to dark, sunken tear troughs as an issue, only second to lax neck skin and profound jowling. The soft tissue submalar (below the cheekbone) deficiencies resulting in dark circles-tear troughing and nasojugal troughing (where the cheek volume appears to split) in men over 55 is nearly a universal concern.

The lifelong benefits of an Implantech Flowers Tear Trough Implant may be the ideal answer to your aesthetic concerns. We will spend all the time needed to educate our patients about the options for facial rejuvenation and restructuring. Many thinner, 40-year-old females who have inherited genetically soft mid-face structure can enjoy the benefits of facial implants to erase and reverse the look of early facial hollowing while providing long-term mid-face support. This allows for a slowed aging process due to the enhanced facial structure.

What is discussed during a consultation for cheek augmentation?

After a review of your medical history and an examination of your current health status, our cosmetic surgeon will analyze your bone structure to determine the best cheek implants for you. It is important to disclose issues such as prior drug use, use of tobacco products, antidepressants, or other prescribed medications to ensure fast, uneventful healing.

Are cheek implants customizable?

There are so many shapes and sizes of implants that Dr. Cabret may use them to change/alter/enhance the midface of certain patients requesting a given look. Some implants are placed to restore facial volume that has been lost due to aging. The implants placed will be carefully selected and can be customized to create the ideal enhancement.

The cheek implants used at Austin Cosmetic Surgery are made of a soft pliable smooth silicone that is easy to shape around nerves or asymmetric nuances of a given face. It is our firm philosophy that any implant intended to augment or supplement the facial bones should be adhered and fixated in place with two small titanium retention screws or more. Dr. Cabret’s experience is so vast, spanning two decades, that most patients, once healed, soon forget the implants are even there.

What is the cheek augmentation procedure?

Dr. Cabret brings an expert maxillofacial background and unparalleled experience assessing and manipulating facial bones when necessary and sees the placement of facial implants as a routine part of facial rejuvenation surgery. Before your surgery, we will thoroughly explain and show you, how an intraoral vestibular incision (inside the upper lip) is made, a subperiosteal pocket developed, while identifying and taking all measures to protect vital structures, the implant(s) placed and secured in place with titanium screws, and the incision closed in a multi-layered fashion with a meticulous process, to  mimic the natural facial muscles. In most cases, the procedure takes 30 to 45 minutes and has lifelong lasting results.

What to expect in surgery?

You’ll be given general anesthesia by our surgical team before the procedure begins. Incisions will be made inside the upper lip to allow access to the cheekbones. This intraoral incision not only minimizes visible scarring, but it also gives us a clear view of your bone structure for optimal placement and symmetry. We then place the silicone cheek implants and secure them to the bone with bone tacks. Finally, we close the incisions with absorbable sutures that will disappear naturally a few weeks after the procedure.

What is the recovery after cheek augmentation?

After your cheek augmentation procedure, you will likely experience some mild soreness, swelling and discomfort. This will fade within a few days, and you’ll be able to return to work and your normal routine in about a week.

Are complications common after cheek augmentation?

Most of the complications cited in the literature are the result of implant movement and therefore can be avoided by a properly trained surgeon. All incisions are made intraorally (inside the mouth) essentially making this a wonderful, discreet, or virtually invisible scar.

Complications cited in the literature include acute or late infection requiring removal or replacement of the prosthesis, asymmetry, extrusion, dehiscence of incision or implant thru mucosa or skin, bony callus formation, hardening or capsular contracture, bleeding, or hematoma, associated anesthetic risks, numbness of cheek and/or lip, visual field impairment, implant displacement or asymmetry, or need for secondary procedures.
