Fat reduction treatment with KYBELLA

Prior to KYBELLA® injections, a cold compress is applied to the area in order to alleviate any potential discomfort. Injections are then administered into the fat pocket and followed by another round of cooling. There may be some mild soreness or bruising post-treatment but rest assured that any swelling should dissipate in a week or so.

What is KYBELLA?

KYBELLA is the only non-invasive injectable treatment approved by the FDA that helps your body shed fat cells under the chin, called submental fullness or a “double chin” – for the long-term – they are gone for good. The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid which is a naturally occurring fat-burning molecule in the body that breaks down and aids in the absorption of dietary fat. When KYBELLA® is injected into the fat beneath the chin, it destroys the fat cells which ultimately yields a noticeable decrease in the fullness under the chin and a more defined and aesthetically desirable profile. After these fat cells are destroyed, and your desired goals are reached, the fat cells can no longer store or accumulate fat.

Is KYBELLA right for me?

You may be a suitable candidate for KYBELLA treatment if you:

  • Have submental fullness or fat under the chin area that does not go away even with diet or exercise.
  • You are displeased or self-conscious by fat under the chin.
  • You feel the condition makes you look more overweight or older than you really are.
  • You do not want surgery or are not a surgical candidate.

What areas can be treated with KYBELLA?

Along with the submental fullness, or double chin, many other small pockets of fat can be treated with KYBELLA® around the body. These areas include:

  • Bra fat
  • Tummy
  • Banana roll (back of thighs under buttocks)
  • Jowls
  • Above the knees
The desired aesthetic goals, and whether the patient is a candidate, are best determined through a thorough consultation with one of our trained physicians or nurses.

Are there any side effects of KYBELLA?

The most common side effects are mild to moderate swelling and bruising after treatment that can last about a week. You may also experience pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness in the treatment area. You will need to plan 2 weeks in advance of any vacation or event.

How many KYBELLA treatments will I need for fat reduction?

The ideal outcomes are achieved respectively through multiple treatments customized individually. Each treatment should be between 1 month and 6 weeks apart with long-lasting noticeable results at 3 weeks and final results after 12 weeks. The number of injection sites per treatment varies by the volume of fat in each area and the number of treatments is customized for each patient.

Can KYBELLA be combined with other treatments?

KYBELLA can most definitely be combined with other treatments such as Coolsculpting, neuromodulators such as BOTOX, dermal fillers, photo facial, and HydraFacials.

How does KYBELLA compare to CoolSculpting?

KYBELLA is an injectable medication that breaks down fat and is then shed by the body’s lymphatic system. Coolsculpting is a device applied to the trouble area that freezes and kills fat cells that are then shed by the body’s lymphatic system.

Are KYBELLA Injections Painful?

There can be mild discomfort during a KYBELLA injection treatment which can be lessened by icing the area before and after treatment.

Are there any other risks to KYBELLA injections?

There is a minor risk of irritation in the jaw, which will resolve but can result in an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness. Other reported complications that we have never seen or experienced but are reported in literature are trouble swallowing and injection site issues: bruising, hair loss, open sores, damage, and tissue cell death around the injection site.
