Optima (IPL) Intense Pulsed Light Treatments

The new Optima technology and integrated cooling tip with Lumenis IPL allows greater safety and comfort when customizing treatments for all skin types.

It works by delivering many rapid, intense and controlled light pulses at different wavelengths to penetrate the tissue and attack different chromophores such as hemoglobin and pigment. The controlled pulsing prevents thermal damage to your skin and minimizes discomfort.

Different conditions such as hyperpigmentation secondary to cumulative sun damage or hormonal influences, rosacea, P. Acne bacteria, vascular lesions, various pigmented lesions such as Nevi of Oto and others as well as hair removal can be treated.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a common chronic skin disease that affects more than 16 million Americans yet the cause is still unknown and no cure is available. Everything from heat, foods, and genetics have been attributed to cause of the red, flushing, pustules, and visible blood vessels that has been categorized further into four main subtypes. Rosacea’s classic symptoms are small, red, sometimes pus-filled bumps on the skin that are present during flare-ups with the most commonly affected areas being the nose, forehead, cheeks, and decollette.

Extensive research has allowed physicians to find ways to treat and mitigate the condition by minimizing its symptoms with Lumenis IPL and Nd:Yag being the leading modalities to do such. There are four subtypes of rosacea with its own set of symptoms and it is possible to have more than one subtype of rosacea at a time.

Rosacea Treatment

Rosacea treatment with Optima IPL works by targeting hemoglobin inside blood vessels. The light pulses penetrate and create heat inside the vessels that essentially closes them off and eventually causes them to shrink and/or completely disappear. Rosacea symptoms are improved by reducing redness and visible small blood vessels, over a series of treatments, typically spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

Immediately following a treatment, you may experience some additional redness that will fade away in a day or two. Typically, a mineral based makeup or tinted sunscreen can be immediately applied along with resuming normal daily activities. However, it is recommended to stay out from the sun for a few days following treatment.

Acne Solution

The Lumenis IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) acne treatment can reduce your acne while also treating the redness and pigmentation of your skin. Acne is targeted by using specific wavelengths of light that penetrate through the skin eliminating acne causing bacteria and reducing the inflammation of sebaceous glands that contribute to excess oil production. The unique technology is a non-invasive solution with less collateral effects than oral medication. The procedure is fast and has no downtime. We typically combined with other treatments such as Hydrafacial to attack all aspects of acne.

Laser Hair Removal

Lumenis IPL is a safe and non-invasive treatment for reducing hair growth. The light targets the pigment in hair follicles, heating and impairing the ability to grow hair. Treatment sessions are quick and typically take about 15-30 min depending on the size of area needing treatment. Best results are achieved over a series of treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart.

ResurFX Photofractional Treatment

The Lumenis Photofractional treatment is a complete solution to skin rejuvenation on multiple areas of the body, tailored to address even the early signs of aging. It offers results for pigmentation, age/sun spots, texture and overall skin appearance.

Its unique technology includes a two treatment approaches, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) followed by ResurFX non-ablative 1565nm fiber laser treatment for skin resurfacing. This enables treatment of both skin tone and texture at the same session. The IPL technology is used to remove unwanted pigment and vessels while ResurFX fiber laser technology treats deeper into the dermis, stimulating new collagen and elastin fibers.

Photofractional downtime is minimal, and integrated cooling technology maximizes treatment comfort. You can get a treatment and return to your busy lifestyle. Risks may include some redness and swelling. The treatment time depends on the size of area being treated, plus additional time for topical numbing. Expect about 30 minutes for treatment and to feel a subtle warm “prickling” sensation during ResurFX.

ResurFX

ResurFX is a Non-ablative 1565nm fiber laser used for skin resurfacing on multiple areas of the body. Similar to that of a Fraxel Erbium laser but with less discomfort, minimal downtime, safe on all skin types, and exceptional results. On average about 3 sessions are needed but after the first treatment you may already notice changes in texture and tone, especially pores. Best results are typically achieved after 3-5 sessions spaced 4-5 weeks apart. However, you can continue to see improvements for up to six months following the treatment.

Hair Restoration

Studies lead by the Journal of Dermatology Surgery (Kim et al., 2011) illustrate the dramatic results found using Fractional Photothermolysis in hair restoration.

Multi-Spot ND:YAG

For treatment of veins and vascular lesions the Lumenis Nd: YAG with multiple sequential pulsing (MSP) is the standard in both efficacy and comfort. Perpetually dilated and visible veins caused by increased pressure in the veins can develop on any part of the body, but the most common areas are thighs, calves, ankles or buttocks.

Sometimes IPL is needed in conjunction to treat the more superficial red spider veins. For large tortuous varicose veins laser is not indicated first line treatment. The Nd:YAG laser works by heating up targeted veins that are more blue or purple in color. Over a series of treatments the veins will collapse and be destroyed. The skin will change from a dark blue to light red color, then eventually disappear.

The vein are reabsorbed by the body in about 4-6 weeks and then subsequent treatments can be done to finish clearing up skin. Local numbing is used at treatment areas, but a slight tingling sensation can sometimes be felt as laser fires. There are no major preparations required before the laser treatment, but you will want to avoid sun exposure, aspirin, alcohol and smoking for at least a week prior to the procedure. After procedure it is strongly recommended to avoid the sun and wear support hose to facilitate healing. You can resume all of your normal daily activities immediately afterwards.
