At Austin Cosmetic Surgery, Drs. Michelle and Albert Carlotti are well-known for their board-certified surgical expertise with procedures such as their signature 4D Facelift. Cosmetic surgery is, of course, the most dramatic way to turn the clock back on the drag that is natural aging. But we can still appreciate just what a little radiofrequency energy can do to turn those hands of time back, as well.
Last month we discussed two of those treatments from InMode, the aesthetic world leader in laser and radiofrequency treatments. Those were Morpheus8 and BodyTite.
This month let’s get down to form, more specifically Forma and Forma Plus from InMode.
What is Forma?
Forma uses radiofrequency energy to provide skin tightening across the face and neck. Forma is a non-invasive sub-dermal treatment that triggers collagen remodeling and tightening.
When the Forma handpiece delivers the RF energy down onto the facial skin, the energy immediately penetrates the epidermis and enters the dermis, the skin’s second layer. When it enters the dermis, the radiofrequency energy converts to heat, and that’s where the rejuvenation starts.
That’s because when the body senses heat in the dermis layer it assumes a wound has occurred — how else could heat be in the underlayer of the skin? This merits a wound-healing response, even though there isn’t any actual wound. This response is to instantly remodel the existing collagen in the treatment areas. More importantly, the body initiates production of new collagen to heal the wound. Since collagen is the protein that provides the structural support that keeps our skin firm and young looking, that boost in collagen improves the skin in the best way — from within.
Where can Forma be used?
At Austin Cosmetic Surgery, we’ve found good success using Forma on the forehead, crow’s feet, upper and lower eyelids, nasolabial folds, jowls, other lines around the mouth, and the neck.
Why is Forma better?
The human body tolerates radiofrequency energy very well. After all, RF energy is all around us all the time. This is different than the singular light energy wavelength of a laser. When laser energy is used for skin rejuvenation, it has to first get through the epidermis, and that can cause skin damage if the energy used is too high. So, laser energy needs to be toned down to keep the patient safe and comfortable. That’s not the case with RF energy. Since both energy forms trigger a wound-healing response, the higher energy delivered with Forma’s RF energy can provide some pretty incredible results.
That’s Forma. In this month’s second blog, we’ll get into the sister treatment to Forma, Forma Plus, and we’ll get into some other details.
